You Want Fox – ‘Liar Liar’ (Reckless Yes)

  • You Want Fox - 'Liar Liar' (Single Review)

Cult label in the making Reckless Yes have done it again with recent signing You Want Fox- a band I introduced to Reckless Yes’s A&R/Director Peter Darrington. You Want Fox appear to be blossoming with this latest single ‘Liar Liar.’ Mixing the meaty stoner style riffs of Queens of the Stone Age with Girls Aloud style pop melody was a combination no one could have seen coming, but which works to spectacular effect. If we still had Top Of The Pops on TV each week, I could see this track scraping the sky, it’s so immense. I could imagine lots of pop fans being turned onto You Want Fox in a heartbeat. The vocals are sweet, the guitars are menacing and the drums back everything expertly. It’s Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake It Off’ for rock fans. It’s the perfect pop song.

Hailing from Nottingham, members of grrrl duo You Want Fox used to be in riot grrrl band The Smears, who I used to love while they were around. Taking influences from The Julie Ruin, they mix the personal with the riot grrrl political to great effect. Fans of Royal Blood will also love them with their stomping heavy scuzzy basslines and tom tom heavy drumming.
Liar Liar will be released digitally on 10 March 2017 and will be available to buy on Amazon.
